Time to Buy More Coffee

I love coffee - strong coffee at that.  When my husband and I traveled to London a couple of years ago, I was thrilled to see that the filtered coffee served in the places we ventured to was so strong that it was hard to lighten it.  Yum!

Anyway, it's time for me to buy more coffee. I am finishing up Seattle's Best Beach House Blend, which I really enjoyed, but I would love some suggestions.   Please leave your favorite brands, blends, etc. in the comments section.

Pope Points Out Spain's Backwards Slide

Pope Benedict XVI traveled to Spain where he encouraged traditional family values in an effort to push back against Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's policies of advancement of gay marriage and fast tracked divorces:

In a visit billed as a mini-showdown with Spain's Socialist government, Pope Benedict XVI drove home the importance of the traditional family before hundreds of thousands of pilgrims Sunday, insisting that marriage must be between a man and woman.

During a 26-hour trip, the pope met with Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, whose government has legalized gay marriage and introduced other liberal reforms that have irked the Vatican. Government officials described the talks as cordial and said no criticism was exchanged.

I like Pope Benedict more and more because he, like his predecessor Pope John Paul II, has the fortitude to go to countries that are experiencing religious and cultural decay, point it out, and encourage people to reconnect with their Catholic faith.

Moonbat Blogger Spirals Out of Control

Deborah Frisch, a moonbat blogger, went on to Jeff Goldstein's blog, Protein Wisdom, and made some shockingly offensive comments, which included what could be construed as a death threat toward Jeff's two year old son. After Ms. Frisch made those comments, Jeff experienced a DOS attack on his site, causing it to crash. The whole thing is crazy. Michelle Malkin has the background.

Howard Dean's View of Marriage

As far as Howard Dean is concerned, marriage that is defined as being between a man and a woman is an outdated and bigoted concept.

"As Democrats, we believe that every American has a right to equal protection under the law and to live in dignity. And we must respect the right of every family to live in dignity with equal rights, responsibilities and protections under the law. Today's decision by the New York Court of Appeals, which relies on outdated and bigoted notions about families, is deeply disappointing, but it does not end the effort to achieve this goal.

"As that essential process moves forward, it is up to the State legislature to act to protect the equal rights of every New Yorker and for the debate on how to ensure those rights to proceed without the rancor and divisiveness that too often surrounds this issue."

Marriage isn't a fad that goes in and out of style. It's not a political position. Marriage is the foundation of a civilized and moral culture. Howard Dean's insistance that the traditional definition of marriage is outdated and bigoted demonstrates how badly the Democrats have spiraled out of control on issues that matter to the American people.

Update: Kevin McCullough hits the nail on the head, I think:

When true people of faith read this, hear it, see it - the things they have questioned all along about the Democrats ability to understand their concerns will only be confirmed.

Choose Life License Plates are "Anti"

Pro-Life Blogs points out a Houston Chronicle article which describes new Tennessee "Choose Life" license plates as anti-abortion.

NASHVILLE, TENN. - Tennessee's anti-abortion "Choose Life" license plates could hit the streets within three months now that the U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal.

Production of the plates can begin once the state attorney general gives the go-ahead and minor design changes are made to the specialty plate, Department of Safety spokeswoman Julie Oaks said last week.

So what is it about the words "choose life" that's "anti"? Pro-Life Blogs says this about the article:

The plates don't mention abortion, nor do they make a negative statement. Instead, the message they present is a positive encouragement, a choice for life. I know this nothing new, but why not just state, "Choose-Life License Plates ready to roll in Tennessee" ?

It appears the writer of this AP article takes offense to the choose life license plates and so describes them as "anti-abortion."  Only a person with a pro-abortion political agenda would find the words choose life to be a threat.

Here in Ohio, we have license plates that say "Choose Life" along the bottom with the words "Adoption builds a family" on the left side of the plate; in fact, I have them on my SUV. I must be an anathema to the left: a pro-lifer who drives a gas guzzler.
